We are the Sri Lankan Student Association (SLSA) at the North Dakota State University. Congratulations! On your acceptance to NDSU. We help the new incoming Sri Lankan students to adjust to the new environment, as many of you are not familiar with the cold weather, as well as to adjust to university life . Please contact any of the committee members and we will help you in any way to ease your transition to NDSU.
Weather in this part of the country is in very extremes. During winter the weather can go down to negative 30s Fahrenheit and during summer the weather is 80-90 degrees Fahrenheit. Prepare well for the cold strong winters. You can bring warm clothes from home or you can buy clothes from here as well.
The best way to arrive to Fargo is by flight from Minneapolis or from Chicago. If you arrive to Minneapolis you can take a bus ride from Minneapolis to Fargo. However the bus ride can vary from 5-8 hours depending on weather and availability of buses. The best way would be obtain a flight directly to Hector International Airport from your destination. We will have arrangements to pick up the students from the airport or from the bus station. Please let us or the International Students Office know your travel plans 24 hours prior to departure
International Programs Office will contact you in international student orientation, class registration and other important events installed for you. Our organization is to help you in anyway you need help. Please do not hesitate to contact us anytime. If other Sri Lankans are traveling with you, please pass our service for the students so in the future they can also benefit from our organization. We are very excited in meeting you.
