Minutes Number 4

The fourth meeting of the SLSA was held on 26th September 2008 in the Peace Garden Room at NDSU at 9.00pm. The president addressed the meeting by thanking all who were present and it was started after singing the national anthem of Sri Lanka.
First, the president thanked all who could participate in the picnic at the Buffalo River State Park and mentioned that the treasurer will present all the expenses for the picnic.
Thereafter, the president asked the members to approve the minutes of the first and second SLSA meetings. The minutes of the first business meeting was approved by Manil and seconded by Dilshan. The minutes of the second business meeting was approved by Shashika and seconded by Chandeepa.
The main discussion in the meeting was about organizing the tri college Sri Lankan night which is scheduled on 16th November 2008 at the Century Theatre. It was suggested that $3 should be charged as the entrance fee. All members agreed to this suggestion. Shashi and Thanusha explained clearly about this event. The organizing committee promised to organize this event very successfully with the help of all the members.
Next item we discussed was about the home coming parade. Susith was in charge of this event and we will be number 84 in the parade.
After that, the president discussed about the volunteering opportunities. Thanusha said she will let the members know about it at the next meeting. Shashika suggested having a garage party in October. Furthermore, he said he will reserve the room for this event. Thanusha suggested giving that responsibility to a new student. It was suggested that Manil, Kushan, Pramuka, and Shashika will be ideal students for this task. Every body approved the committee. Shashika suggested that if we can provide a budget to the student government, we would be able to get money for the DJ and sound system. Chulaka mentioned that we can post an advertisement in face book for both garage party and the Sri Lankan night.
There were two new students from Kenya and Somalia who participated in this meeting and they introduced themselves. Everybody welcomed them.
Finally, the president adjourned the meeting around 9.45pm requesting all the students to attend to the meetings and the events organized by the SLSA.
Respectfully submitted,
Sisika Ranaweera,
