Sri Lankan Student Association (SLSA) at North Dakota State University was formed as a non profit socio-cultural organization on 6th October 2007 at the Memorial Union foodcourt area with approximately 25 student members. Two major purposes of this organization are to organize cultural and social events at NDSU in the context of Sri Lankan heritage and tradition and to encourage its members to make friendship and goodwill among the NDSU community. Initially, SLSA was classified under "temporary status" by the Student Government as is the norm for all new student organisations. During the first academic year we were able to celebrate the 60th Independence Day of Sri Lanka on 4th February 2008, Sri Lankan New Year on 13th April 2008, and organized a Buddhist Meditation Program in May 2008. In addition, we were able to participate in numerous volunteer activities. SLSA was accepted as a full status organization within 5 months of initiation with a 5 out of 5 ranking in recognition of its activities. At present it is one of the most active organizations at NDSU with more than 50 members.
