EVENTS
We are planning an exciting array of events for the year 2008-2009.
The Sri Lankan Student Association at NDSU is proud to present "ARADHANA", the cultural and talent show of the Sri Lankan students. The first ever Sri Lankan night held last year was an immense success. And the SLSA is ready to entertain the NDSU community once again!!! Not as an ordinary audiance, but as noblemen in the king's arena. Yes, "ARADHANA" is going to be a whole new experience this time with a theme of a castle! And you are invited! Come, enjoy a show that suits for a king!!!
The garage party was held on the 17th of October, 2009. More than 200 were present at the party even though it was a Saturday, and everybody had a great time!
Taking a further step forward, SLSA organized a major cultural event, the Sri Lankan Night on the 16th of November at the Century Theater, Memorial Union, NDSU. We were privileged with the presence of President Chapman, university dignitaries and over two hundred friends and well wishers. The program included dances, songs, music and other items showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Sri Lanka. This was the first cultural event in the FM area focused solely on Sri Lanka and we are happy to announce it as a resounding success.
The Sri Lankan Night aptly titled as 'Aradhana' brought forth the cultural talents of Sri Lankan students at NDSU with a modern twist. The fourteen items presented included traditional dances, skits, a childrens dance, acoustic versions of sri lankan songs and modern sri lankan songs and music items.
The members of SLSA visited the Buffalo State River Park on the 21st Sep for a picnic with the intention of refreshing past friendships and getting to know the new Sri Lankans who joined us at NDSU this semester. This event was open to all NDSU students and a lively crowd of forty odd took part in the activities. Games of cricket, tap rugger and "pittu" were the sporting highlights of the day followed by a barbeque and a rollicking session of baila.
Last years Garage Party was a resounding success themed on a "Garage" which was a whole new experience for the FM community. Tunes from around the world resonated in the halls of Memorial Union attracting a crowd of 350 participants. The 2007 Garage Party was the first event organised by the SLSA and it was indeed an auspicious beginning.
Following on the last years experience, SLSA is again organising a Garage Party on Friday the October 24th . The event will be at the larger Memorial Union Ballroom which would give ample space for the dance moves of all comers. We are again delivering a varied musical entertainment drawing on music from different genres
