NDSU THETAS
Kappa Alpha Theta was founded on NDSU's campus on June 19th, 1947. Theta continues to provide a rewarding experience for all members. This year we celebrated the 61st Anniversary of Gamma Nu's founding by hosting an open house for alumnae on Homecoming morning. Alums enjoyed a brunch in the brand new kitchen and were then given house tours by active members.
One
of the greatest benefits of being a Theta is developing bonds
of friendship that supersede all social, cultural, geographical,
and age barriers. No matter where a Theta goes or what she
does, she's likely to encounter other Thetas. And when she
does, there's an instant connection!
"I
never dreamed that my Theta experience would be so long-lasting
and so important to me!"
Theta
for a lifetime means a lifetime of sisterhood. It means dozens
of lasting friendships and hundreds of opportunities for members
to benefit themselves, college chapters, and their communities.
Whether
an alumna is looking for her first job in her field or is
reentering the job market after completing graduate school
or starting a family, whether she is moving to a new location,
changing careers, staying home with children, working part
time or full time, or becoming actively involved in the community,
Theta is the link that brings new friendships, new opportunities,
and new rewards.
"That
kind of friendship, that kind of bond, doesn't fade, and I
think that's what Theta is really all about."
Friendship
and Sisterhood
Our social schedule is jam-packed for the Fall and Spring
semesters. Thetas are very busy with date parties, socials
with fraternities, formals, and sisterhood events. Some sisterhood
events that Thetas participated in this past year were, a fall retreat, firesides,
chapter dinners, Mom's Day, and Theta Thursdays. These events
help to strengthen our bond as sisters and give us a network
of friends who act as a family away from home.
There
is a special kind of freedom sisters enjoy. Freedom to share
inner most thoughts, to ask a favor, to show their feelings.
The freedom is simply to be themselves.
This fall we've enjoyed getting to know the men of Delta Upsilon through exchanges and teaming up with them for Homecoming and Teeter-A-Thon. We also carved pumpkins with the men of Sigma Chi in spirit of Halloween. Recently, Theta participated in the All-Greek meal exchange, in which each house hosts one or two members from all other houses on campus. This is a great way to get to know people in the Greek community. Once the snow falls, sledding and ice skating become popular events. This year we hosted our second annual Parent's Day!! Our parents will traveled to Fargo to join us for a dinner and presentation at the University Lutheran Center across the street from the chapter house.
A
sister is a gift to the heart, a friend to the spirit, a golden
thread to the meaning of life.
Scholarship
and Academic Excellence
Scholarship
is a very important component of Kappa Alpha Theta. The Gamma
Nu Chapter at North Dakota State University takes pride in its outstanding academic
achievements. We consistently look for ways to recognize and
reward the scholastic achievements of our members. Theta had the second highest cumulative GPA for sororities and third highest GPA out of all Greeks last Spring. This was a huge acheivement and we strive to maintain those standings this fall. Our chapter keeps a database of professor and course recommendations
to assist our members in their curriculum selection. We also have 'Study Files', which contain notes and old tests from classes; These can give a member additional material to study for an upcoming exam. Members
are eligible for prizes if their name is selected by a drawing
from our "Skippy Jar" for having no skipped classes
or for having the most study hours for that week at each Chapter
meeting.
Community
Service and Philanthropy
Service
is a very important aspect of Kappa Alpha Theta. We have a
signature philanthropy event that benefits our philanthropy,
Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). CASA involves trained
volunteers who stand up for abused and neglected children.
In the Fall we hold our Bison Breakaway 5K Run/Walk on the morning
of Homecoming. This has proved to be both a successful and
fun event for everyone involved over the last 4 years! This
event is open not only to the campus but the public as well.
In
the Spring we join forces with our neighbors, Delta Upsilon
for the Teeter-A-Thon! DUs and Thetas teeter totter for 130
consequtive hours, rain or shine. Each day of the week brings
a new event, the first being our silent auction. Various yard
games and water fights are always a favorite!! This is a great
opportunity for us to get to know the DUs a little better
and it's also a very fun way to raise money for CASA! Last
April we raised $3,000 at the event, and we hope to have the
same success next year.
